About Me

Owen (Te Rarawa) was elected to the Board in 2019. His 2 children have previously attended royal oak intermediate, James 2019 – 2020 and Lucy 2022-2023. Owen has extensive experience being board chair at royal oak primary for 8 years and a brief period on the board at OHS. Owen is one of only 13 Māori paediatricians in Aotearoa with multiple leadership roles in Te Whatu ora including advocacy for equity for Māori. A a pediatrician Owen has a knowledge and experience of tamariki and rangatahi health a what it takes to make them thrive Owen believes the key part of governance is building meaningful relationship with key values and this has been a very successful approach during his many years on boards.

Andrea Green (‘Oneone’)

About Me

Andrea was elected to the board as a parent representative in June 2019 and was elected chairperson at the beginning of 2021. She and her partner Nisi have a son at ROI, as well as a daughter who had a great experience at ROI and now attends OHS, and three younger kids who will attend ROI in coming years. As well as being a mum, Andrea is a clinical psychologist with 20 years’ experience working in child and youth mental health. She brings knowledge about the challenges that young people are likely to face and experience working with schools to promote students’ mental health and to access available supports and resources. Andrea also has governance experience in the health, disability, and child protection sectors. She is excited about being part of ROI’s continued development as it strives to meet the needs of the kids and community it serves and, especially, to help foster strong connections between school, family, community and culture.

About Me

Andy Jones was elected to the Board in 2022. He lives in Māngere Bridge with his wife Mel, and three girls, one of whom currently attends Royal Oak. He is the Deputy Principal at Waterlea Primary school. Andy is enjoys being part of the Board and contributing to the governance of the school. He has a keen interest in seeing success for all students and a passion for all learners to have support in their schooling. He is committed to supporting both students and staff to have the opportunities that will provide them with successful futures.

About Me

Kia ora e te whānau. Ko Tessa tōku ingoa. I have been teaching at Royal Oak Intermediate since 2020 and transitioned from classroom teacher to Learning Support Coordinator in 2023. My husband, daughter, dog and I live in West Auckland where we enjoy going to the dog park and swimming at the beach. Supporting our students with additional needs is a true passion of mine and I believe inclusive education is something that ROI does exceptionally well.

About Me

Kia ora e te whānau o Royal Oak Intermediate. Ko Caroline tōku ingoa. I joined Royal Oak Intermediate as Tumuaki in 2025, returning to the intermediate years I first fell in love with while teaching in West Auckland. I have taught across all year levels from Year 0–8, and I am passionate about supporting our ākonga and staff to thrive. Originally from Tauranga, I enjoy spending time with whānau, reading, and relaxing at the beach.

Board Meeting Rules

We welcome public presence at our meetings and hope that you enjoy your time observing our board meeting.In order that you understand the rules that apply to members of the public attending our meetings please read the following:

Board meetings are not public meetings but meetings held in public.
If the meeting moves to exclude the public (usually this is to protect the privacy of individuals) then you will be asked to leave the meeting until this aspect of business has been concluded.
Members of the public may request speaking rights on a particular subject that is on the agenda. Preferably this request has been made in advance. Public participation is at the discretion of the board.
Speakers shall be restricted to a maximum of 2 minutes each per subject, with a time limit of fifteen minutes per interest group.
No more than 2 speakers on any one topic.
Speakers are not to question the board and must speak to the topic.
Board members will not address questions or statements to speakers.
Speakers shall not be disrespectful, offensive, or make malicious statements or claims.
If the chair believes that any of these have occurred or the speaker has gone over time they will be asked to finish.
Members of the public may apply in writing to the Board via the Board Chair to have a matter considered within a subsequent board meeting agenda. Written acceptance to add to the agenda will be tendered at the Board’s discretion.

Please note: Members of the public include staff and parents of the school who are not trustees on the board.
