Welcome to Royal Oak Intermediate

Expressive Art

Research has shown that the emerging adolescent needs a wide range of opportunities as they come to consider themselves as part of the world. In acknowledging this need we have what we call an ‘Expressive Arts' programme.

In their two years at Royal Oak Intermediate School students will have the opportunity to engage in up to four different activities that will allow them to explore a passion. For example, this year in the first Semester we have Kapahaka, Tongan, Samoan, Cook Island , Indian and Hip hop dance groups.

Students do not have to be a particular ethnicity to participate… they just need the desire to try something new. Other areas include Choir, electronics, film appreciation, Animal Husbandry, Key Board, Chinese Language, Digital Photography, literacy and Science Badges amongst other opportunities.

Student voice is an important component of expressive Arts and we end each semester with a cultural show to showcase our achievements.

Special Projects

For want of a better name at this time we are exploring the concept of ‘special projects' at Royal Oak Intermediate School . We have five groups focused around specialization staff.

One staff member has a group of students involved in community work at the Crippled Children's Society (CCS).

Another is working with students to create murals around the school. “Trash to Fashion” engages more students as they explore recycling.
