Welcome to Royal Oak Intermediate

Royal Oak Intermediate School is a great school on the edge of the Manukau Estuary. Built on the site of the first Zoo in Auckland, the school has a fascinating history and has faithfully served the South Central Auckland region of Onehunga, Royal Oak and Mangere Bridge for many years. This community brings a wealth of cultural diversity into lives of the 530 students who currently attend our school.

Our focus and
strategic direction as a school is meeting the individual academic, social, cultural and sporting needs of the emerging adolescent in a modern school environment.

Term 3

The concept for Term 3 is DIY – the Science of Living. Emphasis is on ‘hands on” activities which are skills-based.

Key Copetencies, together with the term’s value Perseverance is embedded in the lessons. Immersion activities will be followed by practical work where Kitchen, Chemistry and Gardening will run concurrently.  This will enable students to develop skills to become life long learners.

Enduring understandings:  By the end of the unit we want students to understand that they need knowledge and skills to make informed choices and that there are some life skills that are essential for survival while others are necessary for better living.
In addition to that, there is a homework component where parents can assist their children achieve life skills certificates.
